Re: Game Journal
LOL @ Midori - yeah, he tried explaining it to me last night. Something about how Eevee can evolutionize into a lot of different elemental types or something along those lines? He was pretty happy to get another one last night, Charmander. I recognized the name as being a classic Pokemon that is like - a lizard/dragon-y thing, right? I woudl probably enjoy the games quite a bit. 'collecting' critters would appeal to my CCG side, and it's basically an RPG game in how it plays out, right? Just need to find more time in the day for all of the games I want to play.
Re: Game Journal
*blinks* what's a ducklett? You know, if you guys want, I can share out my son's info if you'd be interested? I obviously don't play, but he plays quite a bit. He might be able to help with the bartering process here. Anyone want me to hit him up and see?
Re: Game Journal
So I was training a heavily unbalanced Team to battle the final Gym (Yes, 90 hours in and I haven't even finished the game yet), when who should I get an invite from but Matty! I onviously wasn't prepared at all for this, but I accepted it anyways. He almost floored me with his Raichu, since my team was mostly Rock, Fire, and Steel, and he kept using Double Team. If it weren't for some lucky shots from my ever dependable Delphox, I would've been screwed. Then he sent out his water type. I was NOT ready for that. I was forced to use my Mega Lucario, who one shot the rest of his team, but not before his Farfetch'd brought him down to the red. If he managed to get even one more hit in, his Pyroar could've destroyed the rest of my team.
Worst part is, I think he used his battle box, perhaps by mistake. If both of us had our full teams with us, I think the battle would've been very different.
Either way, good game, man, good game.

*has nothing to contribute, but offers thumbs up*
Thanks for the share though. I like a little internal competition.

It wasn't my battle box, but I'm in the process of levelling up a couple of 'mons, so it was an experimental team.CanisWolfred wrote:So I was training a heavily unbalanced Team to battle the final Gym (Yes, 90 hours in and I haven't even finished the game yet), when who should I get an invite from but Matty! My problem is the 'mons I like are all not that competitive, haha. I am worried about mega evolutions because they seem to render any 'mon that can't do it inferior.
But yeah, your team is a tough one. Well played
Re: Game Journal
Wouldn't worry any more than usual, honestly. Most of the mega evolutions I've seen don't really boost stats so much as change the typing, abilities, and occasionally the stat allocations. That can make for more diverse strategies, but I've still found my share of non-mega Pokemon just from this generation that can clobber them. My secret weapon in particular, heh. There seems to be a restriction on how often you can Mega Evolve per battle as well, so it's not as if running a team of full-megas will give you a competitive advantage over a standard 'mon with a well-picked moveset and item. Also doesn't help that there are so few.
Re: Game Journal
For the first time since getting the game I had a day without playing Pokemon Stupid Batman, Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex reviews are keeping me busy.
And I have a Ducklett now that I want to train up

Re: Game Journal
I've been playing less of Pokemon recently, too (granted, I've put almost 100 hours into the game now...). Finally been playing Gargoyle's Quest, Crystalis (NES), and Final Fantasy Adventure (which I just got). All have been very solid games so far.
Re: Game Journal
I'm super late to the party but I've recently downloaded Harvest Moon: A New Beginning and it's been eating all of my time. The only thing I don't like is the ridiculous tutorial which takes up nearly the whole of the first Spring
On the PC side I'm getting back into Age of Empires 2 (how crazy is it that it got a new expansion?!) and realising how difficult older RTS games tend to be. I can barely beat the computer on Moderate

Re: Game Journal
No freaking way! I bought my copy of Harvest Moon: A New Beginning just a couple of days ago, haha. Great minds and all that.
I agree. It's excellent, a real return to form, and might well be my favourite HM since Tree of Tranquility. After the disappointment of Two Towns, I'm a farmer again.

Re: Game Journal
My gaming journal has been all about the PS4 for the last few days, at least when I'm home and have power. :p
Re: Game Journal
It has been a busy week or so on my end. The PS4 has kept me busy (Super Motherload, Knack, Madden 25, FIFA 14), the existing consoles haven't exactly been slow (Agarest War 2, Madden 25 and Pure Chess on PS3) and a couple of days with the Xbox One now (Zumba and LocoCycle - though in fairness my daughter played more Zumba than I did).
With the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend coming to my neck of the woods, I'm rather hoping to get some more gaming in. I just started on Killzone last night

Re: Game Journal
I haven't been playing much outside of Xenoblade Chronicles lately. I still love it with all my heart, but no game in the world has the capacity to make swamp levels anything but annoying. God I hate this bog...
Re: Game Journal
I never did get to play Xenoblade. Looked amazing, but the price has rocketed on it.
Re: Game Journal
I've been playing International Cricket 2010 after heading just how terrible this new Cricket game apparently is
Re: Game Journal
I heard that new cricket one got cancelled, pulled from Steam and refunds are being offered. wow. Never heard of something quite like that.
Re: Game Journal
Messed around with Retro City Rampage and Scott Pilgrim today. I haven't even touched the story mode in RCR yet, but the free-roam mode offers endless entertainment. Seriously, more games need to offer a mode that just drops you into an open environment with tons of random things to do, and start you from scratch every time. It suddenly becomes a game of self-motivated objectives with absolutely nothing getting in the way. Whether it's trying to track down every loot bag in one life, unlocking all the challenges and mini-games, finding all the cheats and secrets, or just trying to see how much havoc you can cause in a short amount of time, this game never seems to run out of fun things to do. That alone makes it one of my favorite games this generation.
Scott Pilgrim...it's a great game and all, but it's still a beat 'em up, and despite all its charm, it still gets tedious very quickly when playing alone. It doesn't help that it's #1 problem is that the levels are too long, especially when you're playing Solo. Add even one person, though, and the game becomes incredibly fun. I'm glad they added an online mode, but I still need someone else to play it with...

Re: Game Journal
Yeah, I haven't really played RCR much yet, but my son has. He and I also beat up on Scott Pilgrim on the Xbox 360 a year or two ago. Lots of fun with someone else, but I can see where going solo would have the potential to feel like a grind.
Man - this weekend. Yesterday was all about NBA 2K14. Day before that? Killzone (a little over halfway through the story). Oh, plus more Madden. Didn't get much gaming in at all Thurs or Friday. Too much going on with the holiday.

Re: Game Journal
It's finally starting to settle down in terms of game releases. So you know what that means??
ATELIER GAME MARATHON! Yep. As of this weekend I plan to play the Arland games back to back. It's my Christmas gift to myself. Whoo.

Re: Game Journal
Haha @ Matt - I don't know why, but I don't feel the slowdown at all right now. I think probably because I'm still 'catching up' on the next gen stuff, while having gotten my hands on some smaller titles like Rainbow Moon for Vita. It doesn't help that work's been more like 60 hours a week than 40 for the last month either, but I feel like I'm barely treading water this month. My recent games:
- Rainbow Moon
- Madden
- NBA 2K14
- Killzone: Shadow Fall
- Tiny Brains
- Walking Dead, seasons 2 ep 1
- Peggle 2
- Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory
Ones I have on tap to spend more time with soon:
- Zoo Tycoon
- Forza 5
- Battlefield 4
Just need to find the time to do it. Maybe over Christmas (but then we get the Wii U, which we have like 7 games for, lol)

Re: Game Journal
I've been trying (and failing) to work my way up the ladder in Starcraft 2. I've also been doing some casual farming on the side in Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. Also, can anyone get the Miiverse community working for that game? I think it's broken at the moment :/
After the Steam Sale, I'm also wandering through the dark world of Bioshock. It's so twisted and messed up, but it's also so interesting

Re: Game Journal
I've been playing SteamWorld Dig and the Bravely Default Demo. Both of which are better than they have any reason to be. BD I'm mostly doing the "post-game" stuff, maxing out the town and refighting bosses to max out the classes. There's also a new boss that I can't beat just yet. All-in-all, Bravely Default just might live up to the hype.
SteamWorld Dig I think I'm halfway through already. I've been taking my time, though, and lately I've been too distracted by Bravely Default to really play it.
