Interested in a Digitally Downloaded game project?
Here's an idea I had. We're all friends on this forum, and most of us are fairly time strapped. I know a few of us who have failed completely to finish those RPG Maker projects.
So would any one be interested in collaborating on a game project? If we got together enough skills (art, programing, music) we could even perhaps consider a Unity game, but if it's just a few of us we could always make a visual novel or RPG Maker game.
If there is interest in participating, comment below along with what you'd be interested in doing for the project!
For me I can do project management, music, story.

I might be able to help with, say the story. Actually making the game is something I can't do, at least. yet. But I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
Re: Interested in a Digitally Downloaded game project?
Good idea. I can help with the writing. I am a writer after all, I went to university for 2 years for writing and now I am taking Digital Cinematography. Everything from story, design or editing. I also have a vast knowledge in most software even though I never worked for a game. Let know if I can be of help.

I'd be interested in seeing where this goes. I haven't spent as much time w/ RPG Maker VX Ace of late as I wish I could, but I know my way around it pretty well by now. I write very little code - I just don't know Ruby all that well. I can make some modifications, and if we're doing it for free - well, there's a lot of really good code snippets out there - and I've got lots of experience plugging those in. Time is however, a big issue for me.
I also have some luck with writing - years of doing it. The mapping I am okay, but not great. Do not put me in charge of creating sprites. hah

I'm a hobbyist music composer, with a backlog of semi-finished tracks for a hypothetical RPG. I'd love to take part!
I also used to like drawing environments, although I haven't had the time to practice that lately

OK, awesome, it looks like the interest is there!
I'll set up a private sub forum so that we can discuss amongst ourselves shortly, but in the meantime - poll time! Visual novel or JRPG?

I'm thinking that a Visual Novel will be a better way for us to all get a collaborative project working quickly, too.Astor M wrote:Visual Novel!
I know from my time with RPG Maker that a single town can take a weekend to design and develop - a longer term goal, perhaps? ;-)
Random other thought - does anyone know Unity, or know if Unity is especially difficult to learn? Perhaps we could go all the way and start up a little development club? ;-)
Re: Interested in a Digitally Downloaded game project?
Yes, and RPG would be a longer term goal. My last roommate was in game development and he used RPG Maker a lot, I know for sure it takes time but it can be done if we went the long term road.
About Unity, it depends how complicated you want to go. There's a free version that gives you some basic stuff to work with and it's not that complicated to learn if you know a little about lightning, psychics, audio or even special effects.

I was able to finish my game Tales of Madness in 30 days, before the trial ended.
This is just a demo video of the finish game.
We're already working on Tales of Madness 2, with even more sillyness into the mix, and it's almost done~

I dabbled in unity for a while, but it does require some decent commitment to use well. The best I could make was a few interconnected rooms, and that took me days

Hm. Perhaps a long term work in progress, thenMagikarp wrote:I dabbled in unity for a while, but it does require some decent commitment to use well. The best I could make was a few interconnected rooms, and that took me days
So, we doing a visual novel? I'll get that private sub forum set up!
Re: Interested in a Digitally Downloaded game project?
I personally prefer game development to visual novel, but am down for either. Sadly I know nothing about Unity whatsoever.

Re: Interested in a Digitally Downloaded game project?
I may have to nab that in some point in the near future. I've started... so many games. Just never finish them. I think I just bite off a bigger project than I should. I remember one game, back on RPG Maker XP, where the gameplay was already at more than 8 hours - pretty beefy for an RPG Maker project, and it still a ways to go. Not even sure why I quit working on it - I think I just burned out, honestly.
so - what are we thinking topic-wise for this project, Matt? Any framework notions - software, story direction, etc?
