What was your first video game console?
This isn't a "home console" persay, but the first system I ever played a game on was our old Commodore 64 (which I still have). My first "real" video game console was the Sega Genesis. I have such great memories playing it with family and friends.

Great thread.
My first console was actually a Game Boy, which I got when I was around 5 or so, and it quickly became an obsession. The family added a SNES a couple of years later - my brother scored one of those.
Re: What was your first video game console?
I believe the first I played was the NES (Super Mario Bros., naturally) with my uncle. I later "acquired" a Super Nintendo and a Genesis but they were borrowed from friends or family that couldn't be bothered to retrieve them. I...still have both to this day.
If we're being really technical, I didn't "own" a console until the Game Boy Advance in '01 since all the other consoles I used had similar questionable circumstances surrounding them.

Re: What was your first video game console?
My family purchased an NES when I was fairly young, potentially even before I was born (I was a late '91 birth, I think the SNES released a few months before I was born).
Anyways, I have fond memories (as a child) of getting up, waiting at my bedroom door for my brother (who was only 2 years older, we were both precocious) to unlock the "child-gate" from my door, and we would go into my parent's room and play the NES, which coincidentally woke them up
From there on out, in order, we got a
- Genesis
- N64 (a relative gifted it to us, nice of him to do so, it was the Star Wars Episode 1 Bundle, I still have the ice blue controller)
- Xbox (another relative who had bought it sold it to us because he never got the chance to play)
- Gamecube (my brother and father thought it was an inferior console spec wise. "No 5.1 audio?!" they used to say. But we got the Zelda Collector's Edition bundle, which was awesome)
- Xbox 360 (that Gears of War!)
After that I started purchasing my own consoles, picked up a PS3 last year, a slim 360 this year, and a 3DS (eventually upgraded to an XL). As you can see, my family always missed the consoles that had the good JRPGs (SNES, PS1, PS2, PS3), so I never (and still haven't) gotten into the genre.

Super Nintendo. Followed by NES.
The nostalgia is overwhelming!

Re: What was your first video game console?
My first game system was a TI 99/4a... think of it as similar to an Atari, but had some CPU backend - I learned BASIC programming on that thing when I was about 8. I got it as a Christmas present when I was around 5. It has some generic knockoff titles like TI Invades and Munchman (versus Space Invaders and Pac-man), but some more unique titles like Hunt the Wumpus, Parsec and A-maze-ing as well. Later they began to get Atari games ported over, so I got to play games like Donkey Kong and Moon Patrol. The system itself was cartrige based with a keyboard, but you could also do tape backups and it has an optional speech synthesizer for trying to replicate actual words during gameplay. This thing is what got me started on over 30 years of gaming.
Re: What was your first video game console?
First was technically a NES, but when it comes to me actually reaching an age to fully understand games, I would say the N64. I only had a handful of games, but games like Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Banjo Kazooie made me want to make games

NES was my first...never stoped gaming since

Re: What was your first video game console?
NES was so ground-breaking for me. The system I had, that TI99/4a was a lot like the Atari. Fun of course, but games became so much more in-depth with NES. Zelda just changed gaming for me forever when it came out, honestly.
Re: What was your first video game console?
Got a Gameboy Pocket and a Bootleg Nes in the same year. Can't really remember which I got first, but it was blast to alt play Mario Land and SMB with my siblings.

Re: What was your first video game console?
GameBoy Advance SP was the first console I played. I didn't actually game much until my family got a DS, then both my brother and I got addicted to Animal Crossing, Super Mario and Rhythm Heaven.
Re: What was your first video game console?
I think the DS was responsible for bringing a lot (and I mean a *lot*) of players into the games industry. Such a special console.KiDasharus wrote:GameBoy Advance SP was the first console I played. Re: What was your first video game console?
MattS - I have to agree there. Without the DS I may not be gaming today!
Re: What was your first video game console?
Haha, I also remember the early days of DSi and DSiWare - when the idea of a DOWNLOAD SHOP on a HANDHELD CONSOLE promised so much - I loved the early days of that portal before its limitations became so very painfully obvious.KiDasharus wrote:MattS - I have to agree there. Still, DSiWare gave me Kubos, so I can't complain.
Re: What was your first video game console?
Well if you consider getting the best version of the Monochrome-screen Gameboy that is still fairly easy to find, I definitely recommend you to nab one. Also, thanks for the welcome. You are known as Waltz in other places aren't you?MattS wrote:That Game Boy Pocket is the only Nintendo handheld I have never owned, haha!

Re: What was your first video game console?
If I ever come across one I just might. I actually really enjoy the Game Boy's kind of Monochrome, but my Game Boy Original died long ago, and so I need a new one...KarakatoDzo wrote:Well if you consider getting the best version of the Monochrome-screen Gameboy that is still fairly easy to find, I definitely recommend you to nab one. And yes, I'm that Waltz/ Bankai fellow that got banned from NintendoLife for telling Damien how to do his job
... I was right though.
Re: What was your first video game console?
See, my kids would be able to answer w/ several consoles. While I just had that old TI99/4a of mine, by the time they rolled around, I had a lot of older-gen consoles, ranging from NES and MSM through Playstations and Dreamcasts. The DS was a huge hit in our house tough - each kid got one for Christmas at one point, and it was 'their own' system - they really liked that.
Re: What was your first video game console?
The NES. In fact the NES came out in NA on my seventh birthday. My dad picked one up for my birthday. At first I had no idea what it was (before that the only video game I played was a baseball game on my cousin's Atari very briefly) until my dad hooked it up to our tv. Boy was I amazed when I first played Super Mario Bros.
