Favorite console of all time?
I know we have asked about your favorite old game, or your first gaming console - but I'm curious what your favorite one is? I have had so many over the years that I actually struggled with this one a bit myself. I think the NES probably comes out on top because of the way it changed my entire perception of what gaming was, plus the massive library of games it presented me with back then. Others that came close though for me were the N64, PlayStation 2 and the Sega Genesis. The Genesis in particular really helped me solidify my fascination with strategy titles like Shining Force and Warsong.

It's difficult to narrow down, but Super Nintendo, PlayStation 2 & 3, and the Gameboy Advance all come to mind. I've probably played over a hundred games for each and yet I keep stumbling upon more and more hidden gems. If I absolutely had to choose one, I'd actually cheat and say the DS since it has a great selection of its own and access to the GBA library (which in turn has enhanced ports of my favourite SNES games). If that doesn't count, simply GBA.

Probably the PS2. Great console with loads of great games of every genre. The only console that I have well over 100 games for.

The PS3 for me - I've got something like 200 games on it, and as an Australian, finally getting games like the Atelier series has made the console well worth the investment.

Lots of PlayStation love so far - not that I can argue. PS3 came on really strong in my house over the last year or two, but like Canis I had a huge PS2 collection.

Hm. Well, I haven't had a great deal of consoles tbh, so here's what I think.
If you're talking about the physical console itself, Wii U. It's pretty fast, I love MiiVerse, and the controller is perfect.
However, overall, 3DS. Most of the time when I'm gaming, it's on the 3DS. I have a ton of games for it too, so I can bring it anywhere and not get bored fast.

Yeah, 3DS definitely qualifies. It's interesting, my son has been spending a lot more time on his school iPad and 3DS than the PC or PS3 lately himself. He has quite a few games for the 3DS now, and I think he too enjoys just 'having it handy'. I don't really travel much, so the portables get as much (if not more) use at home than on the road, and a lot of times I'd rather be playing in front of a big screen than a small one, so while I enjoy my handhelds, I don't think they get as much mileage from me.

It's funny, for me the 3DS only really, truly started to pick up this year. As an RPG nut, we have had to wait a very long time in Australia for games of that genre to start showing up.
Now it's good times. From Fire Emblem to Etrian Odyssey to Pokemon and Bravery Default on the way the console's doing fine by me.
And Animal Crossing is just irresistible.

My favorite console has to be the PS2. I had some of my best gaming experiences on that console. From Kingdom Hearts to Metal Gear, I played some of my favorite games on the PS2.
The Gameboy Advance comes next. I spent years of my childhood playing that console. Games like Pokemon and Advance Wars made my life so much better back then. Those are the days that I miss the most.
The PS3 would be 3rd. Is the one I have right now and I love it.
But the most sexy console has to be the PS Vita, sometimes I just stare at it and tell him how beautiful it is.

Yeah, Matt - the 3DS has really been a lot better this year, but I have noticed it seems to take longer for you guys to get some of these games (like Fire Emblem), which kind of sucks.
Astor - you know, I never really played the GBA. My kids have one bouncing around still now, but somehow that one just sort of 'missed' me. The Vita is a beautiful little piece of hardware though - now it just needs more title support, but it's coming along nicely this year as well, imo.

So thanks to Bravely Default, I really do think the 3DS is the best handheld console of all time now. Portable RPGing just doesn't get better than that game.
Re: Favorite console of all time?
Well dang. That one has always been on my radar but at the same time I wasn't too hyped either. Guess I'll have to buy it when it hits North America next year. 3DS has certainly been churning out the hits this year though, especially with A Link Between Worlds last month.
