Mobile Games!
Ok so we kicked things off by asking about the iPad and what you played on that. How about your phone? What do you spend your time on?
On my Galaxy S2 (I know, retro now-a-days ).
I must admit I am a sucker (pun intended) for Candy Crush Saga. I think my best purchase for a mobile game for sheer amount of play time I have got out of it is Settlers of Catan with the Seafarers expansion.
I have tended to avoid games that will cost you money in the past unless I know what I am buying into. With this in mind I have been eyeing up a high quality turn based rpg for some time and Square Enix have a few good options on Android so something along those lines will probably be my next purchase.

Re: Mobile Games!
I must admit I don't know much about what is available on Android, so I can't help much there I'm afraid. Chaos Rings is a good turn based Square Enix RPG if it is on there.
I don't play many games on my phone, as I have the iPad and dedicated portable consoles, so it's a lesser cousin in general, but there's a couple I must out from time to time:
- Fortune Street Smart - I love Fortune Street so it goes without saying that a near-perfect version of the game on iPhone was impossible to resist. Now just to hope for a HD iPad one as well
- Rayman Jungle Run - I don't usually get into endless runners, but this one really drew me in with its gorgeous art style and highly challenging levels.

Re: Mobile Games!
Amusingly, may answer's pretty much the same as for my iPad - Angry Birds Star Wars, Infinity Blade II and Tekken Card Tournament. I used to heavily play other mobile CCGgames like Rage of Bahamut, Guardian Cross and Marvel: War of Heroes - but man those become time sucks.
Re: Mobile Games!
I recently switched from a Samsung brick to a Lumia 520. I don't usually play games on the go, although I've had a browse of what is available on the Windows Phone store.
Now I just play the original Final Fantasy on my phone a lot. Does anyone know of any good things on the Windows Phone store? I can't find any others

Sorry dude, can't help you there. Windows Phones (like Blackberry) have such a small install base that I hardly hear of anyone working on games for the platform.
Surely Angry Birds is there? It's on everything else. I know it's a game that gamers love to hate these days, but it is so very popular for a good reason.
Re: Mobile Games!
While I don't officially "own" one, I do know that some solid games have made it there. Haven't seen much genre diversity in the store though. Here are a few:Magikarp wrote:Does anyone know of any good things on the Windows Phone store? I can't find any others
Akane the Kunoichi (really enjoyed it a couple years back, Matt dug the iPhone one if I recall)
Rayman Jungle Run
Sonic CD
Super Monkey Ball 2
Re: Mobile Games!
Thanks guys! I have Super Monkey Ball 2 on my iPod touch (and after a great deal of ire, I actually finished it)
I'll definitely check out Akane the Kunoichi though, it looks great!

Re: Mobile Games!
I played Nihilumbra until I beat it, and haven't gotten around to the second part of the game(considering the levels are just plain annoying at this point.) I'm also playing Kid Tripp when I have the time and Mage Gauntlet, which is interesting. Finally, from time to time I'll play Final Fantasy, which I just can't seem to get into :/

The first one. I had never played a Final Fantasy and has some money on the App Store, so I decided to give it a try.CanisWolfred wrote:Which Final Fantasy?KiDasharus wrote:I played Nihilumbra until I beat it, and haven't gotten around to the second part of the game(considering the levels are just plain annoying at this point.) Re: Mobile Games!
How did/do you like it so far? The first was what got the series going, but isn't among the best either imo. My son picked it up for VC (I have it for NES, but the battery in it died a bazillion years ago), and he found it... jarring. RPG's are not made now like they used to be, for better or worse, heh.KiDasharus wrote:

Re: Mobile Games!
tbh I haven't gotten very far in it at all. I keep dying too, so, I'm sure eventually once I get the hang of it it'll be more fun for me.
Re: Mobile Games!
Dying? I thought it was based on the PSP game. You really should not be dying, no matter how many FFs you've played. Unless you're just going straight to the boss before you hit level 5 or 6, as well as you buy magic, that is.KiDasharus wrote:tbh I haven't gotten very far in it at all. Re: Mobile Games!
While the game is definately easier than it was originally, there's still a couple of spots that can be killers - dungeons still tend to be overlong and convoluted so it's possible to get lost and get attritioned to death if you're not used to playing old school JRPGs.CanisWolfred wrote:Dying? Re: Mobile Games!
I recently got my first smartphone. I was just fine with my imported old fashioned flip phone (like those you see on anime, I'm an Otaku after all) but my mom decided to give me an early present and bought me an Iphone 5 or 4 I think. I'm not too familiar with phones and this is a whole new thing for me.
I've been searching the App Store for games and stuff and I was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations. I was playing Infinity Blade, Bloodmasque and Demonade. I'm also playing Moe Can Change and it's incredibly adorable for some reason. Is there any good Visual Novels or dating sims? Thanks.

Re: Mobile Games!
Hmm, not aware of any of those types of games I'm afraid. I know on my iPhone Chris at DD got me hooked on Puzzle & Dragons which is a freebie. My son's been playing Infinity Blade III a ton.
Re: Mobile Games!
Which App Store is your phone attached to, Astor? The Japanese App Store has a bunch of both... Including a Love Plus, from memory.
Also, if you're a fan of strategy games, be sure to pick up the iOS version of Nobunaga's Ambition. It's ace (and available on app stores anywhere in the world).
The App Store is best for digital board games too, if you're a fan of those. I especially recommend Fortune Street and Ticket to Ride.
Oh! and the iPhone Wizardry game is great!

Re: Mobile Games!
There are actually many visual novels on there but a good chunk of them are in Japanese. Some are still on the US store though, despite being in their native language (IIRC I saw a port of Gift from PS2). Then there's the standard translated goodies like Juniper's Knot and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. If you haven't already played them on other consoles, there's also Phoenix Wright Trilogy, Ghost Trick, and 999. I can also say please stay far away from My Neighbour Girl, which manages to disappoint despite being translated and a kinda-ish dating sim.
There's a ton out there that I can't properly vouch for but here's a site that makes browsing the store for them less of a chore.

Re: Mobile Games!
Just a quick heads up, there's a new iPad-only RPG releasing this week called the Shadow Sun. I can't say much more on account of embargoes, but our review goes live in the coming days and it's truly awesome, so keep and eye out for that one.

And another protip for a game review that we've got coming soon after Christmas - Panzer Corps, just released, is flippin' amazing!
