Why it sucks to be an Aussie gamer

I knew this was going to happen. I knew when the Classification Board decided that PG games are now R18+ rated games that eventually a game that is actually adult would get itself banned.
Not happy, Jan.

Haha nice and friendly there MattS
Having seen Saints Row I and II and played the second one I didn't think they would be anywhere near ban worthy. I could think of a bunch of films that I would find more offensive than what I saw from the earlier titles so either they have degenerated the series to a deplorable level or the Classifications Board is putting its foot down to show its authority.
I think that in an age when you have the internet at your disposal you can learn to be discerning about what you do and don't consume in the media. How often do people go out and just watch a film these days without popping over to IMDB to have a look at the trailer, see who is in it, read some reviews. If you do this and you read a review that says some people might find this offensive, you can just choose not to watch it. The same thing applies to the games industry, if you hear about a game that you might not like, don't buy it!
What has happened to the accountability of people? Can no-one discern for themselves anymore what they think is appropriate?

Hey, it's all still friendly here. Just not for the Classification Board.
I agree with Perplexion. The point of the Classifications system is meant to be that it provides consumers with a guide, which they can then exercise best judgement on whether they themselves or their children should be watching a film or playing a game.
The Board is not meant to be censors blocking adult Australians from accessing material that they, or others around them, might fight objectionable.
On a philosophical level, I do think (and worry on the ramifications) that our Classifications Board has lost sight of why it exists.
But then we do live in conservative times. Sigh...

It's happened again - two games banned in two days:
