The Book Thread Empty The Book Thread

Read any good books lately? Read any bad ones we should keep away from? Post about them here!

Recently I've read Every Day by David Levithan, Caught by Margaret Peterson Haddix, and The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. All three were really good imo, especially The Testing. It was kind of like The Hunger Games and Maze Runner put together, which was interesting.

So what about all you?

Great thread idea!

I'm a little behind on my reading, but I'm slowly catching up on some Japanese literature. Right now I'm reading some works by Haruki Murakami - 1Q84 and Kafka on the Shore.

That said my favourite Japanese book of all time is Eiji Yoshikawa's Taiko - for fans of Japanese history it's essential.

I think the last book I read to completion was in 2008...Catch-22. Good read.

I'm running through the complete collection of Kafka's short stories at the moment. It's weird, beautiful, depressing and hilarious all at the same time. It's a shame that Kafka on the Shore doesn't have much to do with Kafka :/Are you reading it in English or Japanese, Matt?

For this one I'm reading it in Japanese - or trying to. Reading a novel in a native language is much harder than conversing in it or playing a game in it.

But I need to to get my Japanese to that next step.

I read The Drowned Cities recently. It had too much blood and gore and didn't really captivate me. Kinda disappointed with the ending too. Next, I'm going to read Holes, though. Heard that's good.

I've just picked up an awesome hardcover anthology of Lovecraft's short stories. Time to get reacquainted with the mighty Cthulhu Very Happy
